About Bridging Wellbeing
Culturally grounded wellbeing programs for African and Black communities across Australia.
Our Story
Bridging Wellbeing was founded on the belief that wellbeing support should reflect the cultural realities of the communities it serves. For African and Black communities in Australia, mainstream wellbeing spaces often feel disconnected from lived experience.
We create programs, conversations, and resources that honour culture, identity, and community — because genuine wellbeing is built on belonging, not assimilation.
Through THOR Reset, MENtality, and The Tea, we offer structured programs, national webinar conversations, and ongoing community dialogue that meet people where they are, across Australia.

Susan's Story
Founder and Lead Clinician
I am the Founder and Lead Clinician of Bridging Wellbeing, a culturally responsive mental health platform established to increase the visibility and connection of mental health clinicians from African backgrounds. By strengthening visibility, Bridging Wellbeing aims to improve access to culturally safe mental health services for African communities across Australia and the African continent.
The platform is grounded in the belief that increased visibility and collaboration among African clinicians creates opportunities for innovative, culturally grounded mental health programs developed by Africans, for African communities. Through this approach, Bridging Wellbeing seeks to address long‑standing systemic barriers such as under‑representation, stigma, mistrust of services, and inequitable access to care in both Australian and African contexts.
Alongside my founder role, I am a Senior Mental Health Clinician and Social Worker with extensive experience across acute mental health crisis services, hospital settings, sexual assault services, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), youth mental health, and higher education. I have provided clinical leadership in high‑risk and complex environments, worked within multidisciplinary teams, and supported individuals and families navigating significant trauma and distress.
I also work as a Suicide Prevention Trainer and African‑culture mental health consultant, delivering workforce and community education, providing specialist advice on high‑risk presentations, and supporting organisations to strengthen cultural safety, engagement, and access to care. My work spans clinical practice, supervision, education, and systems‑level collaboration.
Bridging Wellbeing, and my broader professional work, is centred on human flourishing, positive relationships, and collective wellbeing, recognising that individuals and communities engage with support in different ways—whether through counselling, professional visibility and opportunity, relational connection, or broader community collaboration. This work is underpinned by a commitment to bridging culture, care, and community through trauma‑informed, culturally responsive, and community‑led mental health practice.
